Relational Data Explorer 1.1
In order to do this a definition of the relationships and dialog structures is done nearly completely by using SQL. These definitions get done via RDE Designer. Currently the following database systems are supported by their own native interface:
- MySQL
- SQLite3
- PostgreSQL
- Oracle
A lot of other systems are supported via ODBC, esp. MS SQL Server.
CSV/TXT files (semicolon or tab separated) are supported by loading them dynamically into a temporary SQLite database, also enabeling joins to the main database.
So the target is to provide an easy to use and easy to configure application development platform for database investigation tasks. It is not meant to replace tailor-made, sophisticated, large scale and expensive business applications, but to do its job in those cases, where you need some sort of spreadsheet for sql-based data structures, a flexible information management tool, rapidly adaptable to new tasks and requirements, i.e. in the home, small business and back office area, for development and support people who need a more direct and unfiltered view of the data than what a complex application may offer. RDE was designed as a native Windows application in order to offer a grade of speed and comfort that an HTML-based web application can never achieve.
RDE is currently available in English, German, French and Spanish; the help file is in English only. The supported platform is MS-Windows 2000 or later.
