Additionally, a number of community members are working on ports for Solaris, FreeBSD, and OS/2 and live/portable versions. You can learn more from our Ports and Distributions page at: http://www.openoffice.org/porting/ . Bug Fixes As of 2012/08/16, there were 69 verified issues that have been resolved. This list can be found at: http://s.apache.org/Huv You will need an OpenOffice Bugzilla login to view it. (An OpenOffice Bugzilla login will enable you to search for any bugs that may interest you.) Important bug fixes have been made in these areas:
  • "quickstarter" problems
  • extension cleanup
  • auto update check now re-enabled by default
  • "undo" issues in Calc
  • "redo" issues in Calc
  • "freeze" problem with Calc and Writer when LanguageTool is installed
  • non-detection of java. "Oracle" as a java provider was added to aid in JVM identification. Previously, the vendor was Sun.
The QA team has been tracking additional fixes as well. See their complete reports at: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/Report/WeeklyReport Additionally, starting with version 3.4.1, Apache OpenOffice now has the benefit of static analysis provided by Coverity to detect software defects before the code is even released. Special thanks to Coverity for providing access to their award winning tool! Performance Improvements/Enhancements
  • Cleanup of temporary areas used by extensions installations. This will reduce the per-user disk footprint for multi-user installations.
  • Keeping only one English dictionary for US-en installations instead of 5. This will save user space. Users will be able to add other English dictionaries (Canadian, Australian, New Zealand) as desired
  • Hunspell library upgraded to version 1.3.2 from 1.2.9. This version contains several improvements especially for Dutch, German and other Germanic languages with extended compound word usage.
Microsoft Windows 8 Compatibility With this release we have tested with Windows 8. So far it looks good. We are in the process of going through the official Windows 8 Certification checklist and some minor issues still remain. See the wiki document below. http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Windows_App_Certification_Kit_-_Test_Results_for_Apache_OpenOffice_3.4 Note: the improvements made in Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 to better support Windows 8 will also benefit Windows 7 users. Known Issues
  • Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 manage the user profile differently than previous versions. The old user profile is automatically converted so that users can keep their extensions and settings. In a minority of cases, especially with highly customized profiles (many extensions or customizations) the conversion doesn't succeed. Common symptoms are: frequent application crashes, problems with dictionaries or thesaurus, OpenOffice starting and crashing after a few seconds. To solve this, just reset/rename your user profile as explained in the official OpenOffice forum. http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12426
  • Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 will be flagged by the new Gatekeeper facility in OS X Mountain Lion. This is a new feature to help guard against malware on Mac systems. There is a procedure laid out at the following link to allow applications not installed from the Mac App store to run. See the article at Mac support at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290.
  • Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. If you still have problems, install the most current JRE 6 version. Make sure you get the file "Windows x86 Offline (32-bit)". Then configure OpenOffice to use it at "Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Java". See this forum topic for more information.
  • The Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 installation package for Windows will expand the installation files and immediately start the installation wizard. In rare circumstances, probably because of incompatibilities with other installed software, the installation wizard might not start automatically. In that case, just locate the "OpenOffice Installation Files" folder on your Desktop, open it and double-click on the file named "setup.exe" to start the installation procedure.
  • On recent versions of Mac OS X it might happen, especially after a "Force quit", that the following error message appears: "Restore Windows - The application OpenOffice.org was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?". If you cannot get rid of it: Option-click the "Go" menu; choose "Library" from the menu to open the folder in the Finder; click on the folder "Saved Application State"; delete the file "org.openoffice.script.savedState". See this issue for more information.

v3.4 [05-16-12]

AOO 3.4 Release Notes General Remarks The Apache OpenOffice 3.4 features can be split into two stages: changes already made in the OpenOffice.org beta, and additional changes made at Apache since incubation started. During both stages many small bugs were fixed and we can't honestly summarize the huge help provided by our development community. New Features from the OpenOffice.org 3.4 beta These features were already part of the OpenOffice.org 3.4 beta. The 3.4 beta was built from the OOO340 code line which was cloned from DEV300m106. This code line is the base for the Apache OpenOffice code. Faster Startup Startup is faster since the program now has enough initial knowledge about its components so that it doesn't have to start each of them. Improved ODF 1.2 encryption support The ODF 1.2 specification allows optional use of W3C-specified algorithms in the encryption (password-protection) of ODF 1.2 documents. For Apache OpenOffice 3.4, the default "Save with Password" continues to use SHA1 digests and Blowfish encryption, the one combination that is supported for interchange of encrypted documents across ODF 1.0/1.1 and ODF 1.2 supporting application. In addition, documents encrypted using AES256 are now recognized and decrypted when the correct password is provided. It is also possible to select AES256 for encrypting "Save with Password" documents by setting both of these configuration options:

  • Set configuration option org.openoffice.Office.Common/Save/ODF/UseSHA1InODF12 to "false".
  • Set confguration option org.openoffice.Office.Common/Save/ODF/UseBlowfishInODF12 to "false".
A macro to set the options on or off is available at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/User:TJFrazier/Encryption. The configuration options have no effect when saving in ODF 1.1/ODF 1.0 format. See http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/csprd03/OpenDocument-v1.2-csprd03-part3.html for precise details of the ODF 1.2 provisions. Spreadsheet: TIME function returns values 00:00:00 <= x <= 23:59:59.999 The TIME spreadsheet function returns values between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59.999... inclusive and wraps values equal to or greater than 24:00:00. Spreadsheet: Renamed "DataPilot" to "Pivot Table" In the Spreadsheet GUI, the term "DataPilot" has been replaced with the term "Pivot Table". PivotTable has been extended PivotTable (formerly known as DataPilot) is no longer limited in the number of fields supported. Spreadsheet: New CSV export option, "Quote all text cells" Previously, in Spreadsheet CSV export, all content from text cells was quoted with the selected text delimiter. Now this is optional and happens only if the new check box "Quote all text cells" is selected. By default, the text delimiter is added only if the cell content contains the field delimiter, text delimiter or multiple lines. When a CSV file is loaded and saved again without editing the filter settings, the import option "Quoted field as text" is used for the "Quote all text cells" option. The default for "Quoted field as text" is now "off" (but if it's changed in the import dialog, that is still saved as new default in the configuration). Improved CSV export Better interoperability with other applications supporting the import of CSV (Comma Separated Values) files as the style for exporting strings is configurable now. Spreadsheet: Unlimited number of fields in Pivot Table layout dialog In the Pivot Table layout dialog, it is now possible to add more than 8 fields to the "Row Fields", "Column Fields", and "Data Fields" areas, and more than 10 fields to the "Page Fields" area. MailMerge: Scan rows for correct type information for Text databases The MaxRowScan setting allows the user to define how many rows should be scanned to find the correct type of a column. In the past only the first row was scanned. Math: new option to save only used symbols for each formula In order to save on document file size (namely in Writer documents with many formulas) there is now a new option to save only those symbols that are used in a formula. By default this option will be active. Geek info: However there is a small drawback:  Previously, if you worked with different office installations, documents with formulas could be used to implicitly import ALL user-defined symbols in Math from one office installation to the next, even if none of them got used in a formula. Since now only the actually used symbols get saved, only those can be implicitly imported into a different office installation. To get the old behavior, simply turn off this new option. Formula: Automatic baseline for Math objects There is a new check-box named 'Math baseline alignment' available in the 'Formatting Aids' tab of the Writer and WriterWeb option pages. When this option gets checked then ALL Math OLE objects already existing in the Writer document that are anchored 'as character' (and only those with this anchor type) will be automatically aligned to match the baseline of the formula with the one of the surrounding text. Also new Math objects inserted later on will be automatically aligned as well. As long as this option is active, manual movement of Math objects that are anchored 'as character' is not possible, and thus vertical alignment in the 'Object' context dialog is now disabled as well. For new documents this option is set by default. When loading old documents it is not set. In any case, once a document gets saved again, the current value of this option will be saved along with the document. This automatic baseline alignment was implemented by Michal Spisiak as part of this year's Google Summer of Code; the mentor for this was Eric Bachard. Thanks to both of them! Math symbol catalog now supports UTF-32 characters Draw/Impress default enhancements:
  • Better defaults for Impress & Draw snap.
  • Changed default for "copy when moving".
  • Better defaults for grid settings in Impress & Draw
  • Better defaults for bullet spacing and indention
  • Animate outline shapes 'By 1st level paragraphs' as default
  • New default colors of drawing objects
  • Setting default shadow distance for shapes to 0.2cm
  • Enhancement to the "mouse as pen" feature in impress slideshow
  • Default full width for text in shapes
  • Change outline default bullet symbol order from 'Oo-' in 'O-O-O'
  • Shortcut for inserting comments changed
Better UI Defaults for Draw and Impress See for details: Better Bullet UI Better Grid UI Draw/Impress: Setting pixel resolution when exporting graphics PDF File Size Reduction PDFs containing monochrome bitmaps are smaller now Password entry in PDF export dialog changed During PDF export one can enter two passwords ("open" and "permission" password). These can now be entered in one pass instead of two separate dialogs. Base: Mozilla Address Book support removed, in favor of Seamonkey Since the Mozilla product has long been superseded by the SeaMonkey suite, and the profile formats of both changed incompatibly, the Mozilla Address Book support in OpenOffice.org has been removed, in favor of support for the SeaMonkey address books. Base: List box controls: "Bound field" is allowed to be 0 The "Bound field" property of a list box control, specifying which column of the list boxes result set should be used for data exchange, can have the value "0" now. Base: object trees: selecting entries by typing their name The tree lists in Base's main application window, now support selecting entries by typing their name. Base: Scan rows for correct type information for Text databases The MaxRowScan setting allows to define how many rows should be scanned to find the correct type of a column. In the past only the first row was scanned. Base new features detailed description and Sreenshots Stylist / Navigator / Options Dialog: selecting entries by typing their name The tree lists in the application's Navigator, Stylist ("Styles and Formattings"), and in the options dialog, now support selecting entries by typing their name. Chart: Resizeable Legend The legend within charts can be resized now. Chart: Date Axis Date axis are available now for category charts. Time Axis supported in Chart Improved Printing on Unix Printing via PDF (if the system supports it) allows object transparency to be handled directly by the printer subsystem Print file format changes on Linux systems Printing on Unix systems can now produce PDF files instead of PostScript. New Gstreamer multimedia framework on Linux systems Gstreamer is available now to use to playback multimedia content in OpenOffice documents (e.g. audio and video in Impress presentations). Note that Gstreamer (and the appropriate gst-plugins) need to be installed in system. Enhanced RTF export Now it supports nested tables, more character properties, sections, graphics for Wordpad, bookmarks, fields, drawings and OLE objects. Remove binfilter export filters Further development/bug fixes for DOCX import filter OOo/Mac running headless as daemon Various BugFixes New Features for Apache OpenOffice 3.4 These features are the result of the work at Apache on OpenOffice since the OpenOffice.org 3.4 beta: License Change The License has changed to our simpler, non-restrictive, Apache License 2. The Apache License will make adoption, distribution and modification of the software easier for all users and developers. Of course the software remains free, and the source code with its updates will continue to be available through the Apache Software Foundation servers. Misc. Updates. In accordance to the new license all the software components have been updated to use licenses that are in line with ASF guidelines. No critical functionality was lost, and we did update many libraries that will work better on most situations. Many internal libraries and headers were updated with modern versions that provide the same or superior functionality. On selected platforms the "Liberation" fonts were replaced with the improved Google Chrome fonts. We strongly recommend that all developers and distributors update to this release to avoid risks resulting from inconsistencies (IP and security issues) found in previous versions of the OpenOffice.org suite. Calc: Faster LP solver. The previous Linear Programming solver has been replaced with the faster and better designed CoinMP from the Computational Infrastructure for Operations Research (COIN-OR) project. Apache Tomcat updated. The Apache Tomcat servlet was updated from the older version 5.0.30 to version 5.5.35 which brings in years of performance and security improvements without changing the API. We plan to continue updating components without causing any regression on the current code. Support for Line Cap Property Now you can add a cap to the end of a line. Such caps are not only known in the ODF1 .2 standard but in HTML5 and SVG too. Also other Office Suites provide caps in different styles to be added to thick lines. Three styles exist:
  • without a cap, called 'Butt' in programming and 'Flat' in UI (as in MS Office)
  • with a round cap, called 'Round'
  • with a rectangle cap, called 'Square' The property value 'Flat' corresponds to the old behavior and is now the default.
The caps are added to the lines, so that the total length of the lines increases with two-times a half line width. Select the value from a drop-down-list in the line property dialog, just beside the settings for corner style. The new property is only available in contexts, where the corner style is active too. If a line is dashed, the single dashes get caps too. Hereby a dot is treated as dash. You can style not only pure lines and curves, but the border of graphic objects as well. The next example shows the new property applied to a connector. Left side without cap, in the middle with 'round' cap, and on the right side with 'square' cap. The caps are available for 3D-objects too, when you turn on lines and make them thick. The example shows lines, which are styled to look “dotted”. and a zoom… Linecaps defined in svg-graphics are supported, so that those graphics look the same as they do in modern browsers. Support for shear transformations for GraphicObjects (Blog entry) GraphicObjects which get created when inserting graphics in Draw/Impress and Spreadsheet support now not only rotation but also shear, slant and distort. The visualization during interactions was improved, also the break for vector-based GraphicObjects to draw objects was improved. Writer has its own GraphicObjects; the ones from the other applications can be copied to it as workaround. Support for attributes and transformations for OLEObjects (Blog entry) OLEObjects (OLE is for Object Linking and Embedding) in Draw/Impress and Spreadsheet support now all draw attributes and geometrical transformations. They can have line style, fill style, shadow and text. They support all transformations, e.g. rotations and shear. This is handy for e.g. having a mathematical formula shown rotated by 90 degrees or adding a border to a chart. Break to draw objects is also enhanced. Enhanced crop support for GraphicalObjects Crop for GraphicObjects now works correctly together with horizontal and/or vertical mirroring in all applications. Support for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) (Blog entry) SVG is now supported as content for GraphicObjects in all applications. The new implemented generic SVG interpreter supports SVG format 1.1. The geometric content is internally processed as vector data in all usages, e.g. PDF export and printing, which guarantees good visualization quality. SVG graphics can be broken to draw objects and be processed further. A blog entry can be found here. Support for MultiImage in ODF For SVG support it was necessary to allow multiple image representations for one GraphicObject to be present in the ODF file format, e.g. a pixel graphic and the original SVG is written in case of a GraphicObject with SVG content. This allows it to stay compatible with other and older ODF supporting applications. The number of images for one GraphicObject is not limited: applications using this may choose the image with the format which supports its purpose best, e.g, prefer to use a pixel graphic for ODF viewers. OpenOffice 3.4 uses a weighting function which prefers pixel images with transparency over such without and vector formats over pixel formats. Enhanced chart visualization The visualization quality of charts has been enhanced by using a new mechanism for more direct visualization. This increases speed, reduces memory usage and enhances chart visualization in all visualizations, including PDF export and printing. Writer: Asian Language Word Count The word count of Asian languages is now correct. Previous releases were counting terms instead of words when counting words of Asian language text. Notice that file word count will not be automatically updated for existing text documents. You need to make a change to the document in order to force an update of the file word count. New regular expressions (regexp) engine The existing regular expression engine has been replaced by the ICU engine. This solves several bugs in "Find and Replace" with the old implementation and speeds up the search. The new engine also offers better standards compliance especially regarding Unicode, which also means that some non-standard syntax extensions like < and > for word boundary matching are now deprecated. For the convenience of a smooth upgrade experience they get emulated by the operator though. See ICU regex syntax for expressions supported in the new regular expression engine. It is recommended to stay on the common ground though and regex flavors gives an overview where this common ground is. The modified syntax applies to macros too: regular expressions in macros that were relying on the deprecated syntax should be converted to use widely supported regex expressions. Users of Japanese scripts should be aware that several non-trivial transliterations could behave slightly differently, especially when transliteration rules like "ProlongedSoundMark", "IterationMark", "Ignore-Width", "BaFa", "SeZe", "HyuByu", "IandEfollowedByYa" or "KiKuFollowedBySa" might be involved. New Color Picker dialog The old color picker which is used in the office code for over a decade has been replaced by a new, more intuitive one which offers a wide variety of color selection possibilities. This feature was developed by Christian Lippka; kudos to him for offering it under Apache License. A picture says more than words. Old New

The implementation of how data pulled in by references to external documents in formulas is stored internally was changed. Previously, all data of a referred external sheet was stored in a hidden sheet. Now only the data referred is stored in a separate structure, hidden sheets are not created anymore. This has the advantages that - By not creating hidden sheets the amount of available 255 sheets is not decremented. - It should be possible to refer more than 254 external sheets, given enough memory for the amount of data of course. - Less data needs to be stored when saving the document to file. - No unintended data leakage may occur because data not referred is not saved to files. Note that the external sheets will not show up anymore in the Navigator. For ODF file storage the data is still saved as external sheets, previous versions will be able to read the document. Re-saving an already existing document with the new version may result in a significantly decreased size of the file's storage, depending on the previous amount of data in the entire sheet and the amount of data actually used in formulas. eike.rathke@sun.com sc Added EUROCONVERT function i93789   feature-info:
The EUROCONVERT spreadsheet function to convert between former currencies of the Eurozone is implemented, including import from and export (binary) to Excel file formats. Several changes according to ODFF. (1) Introduce the GAMMA function. (2) Introduce CHISQDIST. In contrast to CHIDIST it gives the left tail probability, same as other distributions do. In addition it has an optional parameter to calculate the density function. (3) Introduce CHISQINV. (4) Adapt the "cumulative" parameter of the GAMMADIST function to be optional. If omitted, the default value 1 is stored in ODF documents and export to Excel for compatibility. (5) Adapt the domain of CHIDIST to allow negative x, see ODFF 6.17.10. (6) Remove the constraint "degrees of freedom < 1.0E5" from CHIDIST and CHIINV because they are no longer needed with the new implementation. Unfortunately the identifier GAMMAINV is already used for the inverse of the Gamma-distribution. It can likely be confused to be the inverse of the Gamma function. A comment in the application help is necessary. These changes align with the definition given in the OASIS ODFF/OpenFormula specification available at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/documents.php?wg_abbrev=office-formula Note: for GAMMADIST and GAMMAINV, the third parameter 'beta' is used in the way that mean=alpha•beta, but ODFF draft spec uses the third parameter 'lambda' in the way that mean=alpha/lambda. This needs to be changed in ODFF spec. The application help must explain, which use of the parameter OOo has, because the common usage of the parameter differs between countries. Note: The domain of the GAMMA function contains negative values. The ODFF draft spec is not adapted yet. eike.rathke@sun.com sc DATEVALUE and TIMEVALUE now return date or time only i94765   feature-info:
The DATEVALUE and TIMEVALUE spreadsheet functions now return the numeric value for date repectively time only. In the case of DATEVALUE only the integer part of the date serial is returned, in the case of TIMEVALUE only the fractional part is returned. Previously, both functions returned the combined integer and fractional value. The 'base' parameter of the LOG spreadsheet function is now optional, defaulted to base 10. The implementation already handled this, but it was not reflected in the UI of the formula wizard. This change aligns with the behavior of other spreadsheet applications and the definition given in the OASIS ODFF/OpenFormula specification available at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/documents.php?wg_abbrev=office-formula eike.rathke@sun.com sc Cumulative parameter of POISSON now optional i96837   feature-info:
The 'cumulative' parameter of the POISSON spreadsheet function is now optional. If omitted, storing the function in ODF files adds the default value for backwards compatibility. Also during export to Excel the parameter is added, as Excel expects all 4 parameters to be present. This change aligns with the definition given in the OASIS ODFF/OpenFormula specification available at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/documents.php?wg_abbrev=office-formula eike.rathke@sun.com sc New "Context" mode for numerals setting i22396
Digits used in Arabic text (“Hindi digits”) are different from digits in Western text (“Arabic digits”). Since some of the IMEs (Input Method Editor) do not deliver the correct Hindi digits but the common Arabic digits, a configuration setting has been implemented for OpenOffice.org 1.2 that allows the user to switch the digits that are shown in the document. This setting used to have three different states: “all digits Hindi”, “all digits Arabic”, and “all digits depending on the system locale”. This feature was lacking a mode that chooses the correct digits based on the context of the digits: Hindi digits in an Arabic context, Arabic digits in any other context. Image controls can now be bound to images which are embedded in the document where the control lives in. More precise, when you select an image to be displayed at an image control, the "Link" option in the file picker is not disabled anymore. When you uncheck the option (the default is "checked", to mimic the legacy behavior), then the image is displayed in the control, and upon saving the document, it's embedded in the document itself. This way, you can create documents with image controls which are exchangeable with other people/installations/platforms, which formerly was much more difficult due to the need to also copy the images, and place them in exactly the same location as on the originating machine (which often is simply impossible). Thanks for Noel Power for providing the patch for this. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba Relative path for file based databases i41897   feature-info:
At the moment, when you create a file-based database (such as dBase or Spreadsheet), the URL to the files (let's call it the "data URL") is stored in an absolute manner - that is, something like "file:///c:/foo/bar". As a result, when you move the database document (the .odb file), together with the underlying data, to another machine, you need to either duplicate the file structure on this target machine, or to adjust the settings for the database. Now it is possible that the path is stored relatively when the option "Save URLs relative to file system" setting in the "Tools->Options->Load/Save" dialog is checked. ocke.janssen@sun.com dba SQL syntax highlighting i67961 mod@openoffice.org speclink dba New short cuts for Sun Report Builder i80200   feature-info:

In the course of fixing issue 90403 and issue 92471, the behavior of form controls whose "Empty string is NULL" property is set to "Yes" has been refined. This change might make existing forms behave slightly different than before, but certainly more expectation-conformant now. First, the property is now also respected when you never touched the respective control before saving the record. That is, imagine a control which has this property set to "Yes", this way declaring that if the control contains an empty string, then this should be propagated to the database as (the dedicated) NULL value. Formerly, when you moved to the insertion row of the form, so the control was initially empty, entered some data into other controls of the current record, and saved the record without actually touching the first control, then it actually updated an empty string. Now, with the change, it updates NULL, as this is what "Empty String is NULL" = "Yes" requests. Second, when a control was bound to a database column which was declared as NOT NULL, then the control *always* updated an empty string instead of NULL, no matter what its "Empty string is NULL" property requested. Effectively, this killed server-side defaults of database fields, as such defaults are only applied when the field is NULL. Now, with the change, controls always update NULL in such a setup, this way enabling server-side defaults. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba image controls: can be bound to text database columns, interpreting their content as relative link to the image i91310   feature-info:
Image controls in database forms can now be bound to text columns. Formerly, you could only bind them to columns whose content could reasonably be interpreted as binary (BLOB etc.). Now, when you select a text database column as source for the image control, then it will interpret the content of the respective column's content as URL, and load and display the image pointed to by this URL. Also, the URL might be relative to the document which the image control is embedded into. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba form controls: new property "Input Required" i92322   feature-info:
All form controls which can be bound to a database column (i.e. have the "Data field" property) now have a new property called "Input required". Description ========= This property controls whether or not the input of this field is checked against being empty (NULL). It is evaluated for controls which are bound to a database field which is defined as required (i.e. which is not allowed to contain the special NULL value), immediately before the current record of the form is to be written into the database. If the property is set to "Yes", and the field contains no input when the current record is to be written to the database, then an error message will be shown to the user, and the respective control will be focused afterwards. Note that this is the known behaviour so far - the property defaults to "Yes" so that newly created controls behave as they would do in previous OOo versions. If the property is set to "No", and the field contains no input when the current record is to be written to the database, then this is ignored. It's up to the underlying database to either reject the update, or fill the respective column with a server-side default value. Functional Constraints ================= If the "Form data input checks for required fields" option in the advanced settings of the database document (Edit / Database / Advanced Settings ...) is *not* checked, then the "Input required" property for all controls in all forms in this database document does not have any effect, since the document-wide setting overrules the per-control settings. UI == In the property browser, the "Input required" is located immediately below the "Empty string is NULL" property, if it is present, otherwise immediately below the "Data field" property. If the "Data field" is not set (i.e. empty), then "Input required" is disabled, since it would be evaluated for bound controls only, anyway. If the "Empty string is NULL" is set to "No", then "Input required" is also disabled, since "Empty string is NULL" being "no" implies that when the user does not enter any value in the control, then an empty string, instead of the dedicated value NULL, is written, so there's always a non-NULL value no matter the user's action. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba image controls: scaling the image by keeping the ratio i93264   feature-info:
Image form controls in documents got an additional mode for scaling the image they display. Previously, you could control the scaling by setting the "Scale" property to "Yes" or "No" only, where "Yes" implied an anisotropic scaling, i.e. one which distorted the image's dimensions. Now, the "Scale" property allows the values "No" (same as before), "Keep Ratio" and "Fit to Size" (equivalent to the old "Yes"). When "Keep Ratio" is selected, the image is still scaled up or down to match the control dimensions, but it's ratio is aspect kept constant. This is especially useful for controls where the designer of the document does not know, at time of designing the document/control, the dimensions of the to-be-displayed images. In particular, this is useful for image controls in database forms, displaying images obtained from the database. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba check box grid columns have the "Tristate" property i93457   feature-info:
Check box columns in grid controls now have the "Tristate" property, which controls whether or not the "indetermined" state is allowed for the check box, as known from ordinary check box form controls. frank.schoenheit@sun.com dba Feature title TaskId Spec. title Spec. abstract Dev. owner Spec. link Component Let OOo use own file locking mechanics to lock alien formats as well. i95528   As practice has shown, it is a quite common case that OOo is used to edit documents of alien formats on network. Unfortunately it looks to be impossible to let the file be locked using file system locking, since it does not work in heterogeneous file systems as expected, and the mentioned scenario has been recognized as very important one. Thus the locking mechanics of OOo is not recognizable for third-party applications, except they implement support for OOo locking mechanics. The implementation in childworkspace fwk94 let the alien files be locked using the OOo file locking mechanics as well. That solves at least the cases when a file of alien format is edited only by OOo3.x in network. Mikhail.Voitenko@sun.com
